NJ04NW 24 0406 4660.

Set on a slight knoll above the Stripe of Corshellach are the remains of the farmstead of Little Corshellach, comprising three buildings, of which two are roofed on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (Elginshire, 1874, Sheet xxi); one still stands almost to wallhead height.

Visited by RCAHMS (DCC) 19 June 1991.

Field Walking (2012)

The NMRS and SMR record the remains of Little Corshellach farmstead, depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st Edition map (1847).

CFA identified the remains of two buildings forming a building complex (NJ04NW0027a); a fragment of stone and turf wall (NJ04NW0027b) and the remains of a building and enclosure (NJ04NW0027c).

NJ04NW0027a: A double skinned, rubble core walled building aligbed NE-SW, measuring 20m by 6m with three compartments and the remains of a fireplace recess at the northern gable end, which is upstanding to 1.9m high. The rest of the building is defined by walls measuring 0.6m-0.7m wide by 0.4m-0.5m high with entrance on the eastern side. The tumbled remains of two walls, approximately 6m in length, lie immediately adjacent to the southern building, oriented roughly NW-SE, and measuring 12m by 6m with an entrance on the northern side.

NJ04NW 0027b: A fragment of stone and turf wall measuring 20m long by 1m-1.5m wide by 0.3m-0.4m high.

NJ04NW0027c: The poorly preserved remains of the southern end of small building/structure measuring at least 4m by 4m and attached on its NE corner to the remains of a stone walled enclosure. Both the building and enclosure have been heavily disturbed by cattle trample and ploughing and are upstanding only to a maximum of 0.2m high with walls measuring approximately 0.6m wide.
