Field Visit (22 March 1990)

NJ44SE 28 4514 4258.

The ruins of this farmstead stand on a N-facing slope 450m NNE of the cairn NJ44SE 11. The farmstead comprises a group of buildings forming three sides of a yard, with a further four buildings lying to the E; a horse-gang is attached to the rear of the building that forms the W side of the yard, and beyond it there is a stackyard containing rows of grass-grown stack-bases. Comparison of the first and second editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1874, xxv; 1902, xxv NE) shows that by 1902 one of the buildings to the E (the southernmost) had been abandoned, while another (the easternmost) had been added; the horse-gang only appears on the earlier edition of the map.
