Field Visit (21 December 1992)
NO12NE 48 1748 2598.
This fermtoun is situated immediately beyond the improved fields to the NE of Arnbathie and comprises at least six buildings, together with their associated enclosures; there are a further two buildings on opposite sides of an enclosure some 120m to the N. The largest of the buildings measures 17.8m in length over all, and they have all been reduced to grass-grown wall-footings. Middens are to be found alongside two of them.
To the N and NNE there are three large fields of rig-and-furrow cultivation and ridging may also be identified to the N of the fort on Law Hill (NO12NE 2). A single sherd of medieval pottery has been found on the low ground immediately to the SE of the site.
The lands of Arnbathie are on record in 1566.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 21 December 1992.
