Archaeology Notes

NY59SE 5 592 943.

Two ground and polished stone axeheads were found 2 ft 6 ins apart at NY 592 943 on March 19th 1970 during ploughing for tree planting at Bells Burn. One, measuring 161mm by 76mm across the cutting edge, is in Newcastle Museum, while the other, of similar rock and measuring 149mm by 60mm, is in the possession of Mr Brian Long.
