(NY 5643 9645) "On the south side of the Liddel, almost directly opposite to Saughtree School-House, there is a spot on the green brae side, which still bears traces of a human habitation. It is known by the name of Kid's Wa's. It is said to be the site of the residence of Helen Kid of whom is told the story of Helen Kid's Curse.
A Jeffrey 1864
The site of Kid's Wa's was pointed out by Mr Frank Turnbull, shepherd and antiquarian, in a line with the Saughtree Bridge across Dowston Burn, a little up a green brae on Thorlieshope ground. Kid's Wa's are now down. They were the original holding of the family of Eliott of Stobs. 'Helen's Kid's Curse is connected with this habitation.
