Archaeology Notes

NC84SW 3 830 433.

NC 830 434. Upland farmstead comprising some twelve small rectilinear and oval structures of uncertain form. No association of any large scale land improvement and none of the structures exceed 6.0 to 7.0m in any axis.

Centred on NC 830 433 are the heather and turf-covered footings, some tenuous, of eleven shieling bothies, dimensions ranging from 4.0m by 3.0m to 7.0m by 4.0m.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (J M) 20 November 1980.

Six unroofed shieling-huts are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet xxxvii). Nine shieling-huts are shown on the curent edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1989).
