Archaeology Notes

NY39NE 6 3727 9970 to 3744 9960.

Linear Earthwork, Merrypath Rig. This earthwork spans the course of the old road from Caerlanrig to Eweslees (No.1020) on the E slope of Merrypath Rig, and was presumably intended to serve some purpose connected with it. Its total length is 165 yds., its upper end resting on mossy ground just above the crest of the slope and its lower end fading out some 32 yds. below the W corner of a plantation. The road passes through a gap just above the same corner.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 1948

The mutilated remains of this linear earthwork, consisting of a bank with ditch on its S side, are as described by RCAHMS.

Surveyed at 1/10,560.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 24 July 1962.
