(NY 3046 8903) Earthwork (NR)
OS 6" map (1957)
This enclosure is situated at 700ft OD, in moorland, just over the watershed and overlooking the Boyken Burn to the S. It measures 124ft in diameter within an earth and stone bank 18ft broad at the base, with an external ditch. The E side has been almost completely removed. The entrance, in the W, does not open on the lowest part of the interior. When visited, any internal details were obscured by bracken.
RCAHMS 1920, visited 1912; G Jobey 1971
This well-preserved settlement is as described. The bank averages 1.0m high and the ditch is 0.8m deep; there is a slight counterscarp on both the uphill and downhill sides. The fairly level interior was again covered by bracken but no obvious stances were identified.
Surveyed at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (MJF) 19 September 1979.
