NY 307 773. Bloomery waste has been collected from a slag mound on Solwaybank.

A E Truckell 1961

A turf-covered mound of iron slag 4.5m in diameter and 0.5m high, located in open moorland at NY 3082 7787. It lies on the left bank of a dried-up stream on a S-facing slope. No trace of bloomery.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 22 June 1970

The mound, which is as described, is now tree-covered and stands in a narrow conifer belt on the hill slope.

A bloomery-mound is situated 420m NNE of Solwaybank farmhouse and 7m NE of an unnamed burn. It measures about 4.5m in diameter and 0.5m in height.
