"In 1506 an engagement took place, on the south west slope of this eminence (Ben Briam Beg), near Airidh Dhamh (NC 826 381) between the Clans Gunn and Sinclair where the former were defeated and chased to the top of Ben Griam More where on the following day they were joined by the Clan MacKay, who along with the Gunns attacked the Sinclairs on the SE slope of Ben Griam More. The Sinclairs were put to flight leaving their leader Capt Henry Sinclair and 140 of their best men dead on the ground. The Sinclairs fled and were pursued by the enemy to a place called Aultgowrie now Bannockburn near Auchintoul, where the conflict was renewed and the destruction of the Sinclairs completed."
