(NY 2627 7023) Tumulus (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

The existence of several cairns about 1 mile NW of Beltonmont, name NY 275 697, is noted in 1792, when one was found to contain a cremation burial, for which see NY27SE 9.

Statistical Account (OSA) 1794 (A Monilaws)

Detail is shown on OS 6" of 1898-1947 at NY 2628 7024. The OS Small Scales Reviser (JER) located and surveyed slopes, 4 ft. high, of an apparently much larger feature at NY 2627 7024, on 28 April 1952.

The OS 25" plan shows a tumulus at NY 2628 7024 but there is now no trace of this feature. There is also no trace of the slopes surveyed by the OS Reviser. The area appears to have been bull-dozed. No further information.

Revised at 25".

Visited by OS (WDJ) 18 October 1967.

The location cited by the OS has been landscaped and no cairn now survives.
