(NY 1294 8225) Enclosure (NR) (site of) Neolithic Pottery found (NAT)
OS 6" map (1970)
A probably secondary Neolithic domestic site, yielding a Rinyo-Clactonian type pottery and three apparently utilised flakes, within a slightly defended, palisaded stock enclosure was discovered beneath topsoil in May 1962. Finds are in Dumfries Museum. (Enclosure sited from Cormack's plan).
W F Cormack 1964
The hillock where the finds were made and the enclosure was situated has been completely removed for road bottoming. The finds are still in Dumfries Museum (no accession number available). (R Little, Dumfries Museum)
Visited by OS (RD) 19 May 1966
The enclosure is noted by Jobey as a palisaded settlement. He adds that the Late Neolithic material found is not necessarily associated with it.
