Archaeology Notes

NY16NW 9 c.132 666.

Upwards of 100 silver pennies of Alexander of Scotland and 1 of Edward of England were found in August 1833, in moss on Hurkledale Farm (NY 132 666).

There are no numerals after the kings. Gillespie suggests Alexander I (1107-1124) but Alexander III (1249-1286) and Edward I (1272-1307) seems more likely.

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845 (G Gillespie); W Johnston 1898; J Davidson 1949.
