Aerial Photographic Interpretation (20 February 1996)
NY 121 175 to 179 651 NY16NE 121
Air photography (CUCAP 1979; RCAHMSAP 1984 and 1992; B Jones) has recorded an extensive system of ditched boundaries between the River Annan at Newbie and the public road leading past Hayknowes steading (NY16NE 62). The boundary identified as NY16NE 121 is aligned roughly N and S and converges on the W side of the Roman temporary camp NY16NE 22, but it appears to have been realigned to pass round the SW angle of the camp. Other boundaries cross the axis of this long linear ditch to the N of the Roman camp, while what may be another is visible within the interior.
Information from RCAHMS (SPH), 20 February 1996.
Hayknowes. Listed as ditch-systems and droveway (with NY16NE 120, 123 and 125).
