NX95NE 36 979 571

About one mile W of Arbigland House, the rubble remains of another limekiln marked on Ainslie's map. This kiln was associated with the activities of the famous agricultural improver, William Craik of Arbigland, who was a great advocate of liming.

A cothouse thatched and in middling repair, it formerly had a farm of land attached.

Name Book 1854.

A farmstead, comprising one roofed and one partially roofed building annotated 'Ruin' is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Kirkcudbrightshire 1854, sheet 47). One roofed building and three enclosures are shown on the OS 1:10000 map (1980).
