Archaeology Notes

NX95NE 15 968 564

A typical Group VI (Langdale) polished stone axe, found by Alexander Murray at East Preston (NX 968 564) in November 1911, was donated to Dumfries Museum in 1913 (Accession no: 1934.5). It measures 4.0 ins by 2.3 ins. (Group VI comprises objects of epidotized intermediate tuff of the Borrowdale Volcanic Series from the Great Langdale and Scafell areas of Cumbria).
