Archaeology Notes

NX89NE 44 890 992.

(See NX99NW 14.)

Symson (A Symson 1684) notes that there was a park built by Sir Thomas Randolph (c. 1330) near to Morton Castle (NX 890 992), 'on the face of a very great and high hill'.

It was leased to Gilbert, son of Duncan, about 1376 (J M Gilbert 1979) (In this context, a park was an enclosed game reserve surrounded by

a ditch and bank, on top of which was a palisade - of NS79SE 7.)

M L Anderson 1967
