Archaeology Notes

NC80NE 35 862 070.

Centred: NC 862 070. On a shelf on a W facing slope is a settlement of three stone-walled huts ('A'-'C') and an associated field system. The hut walls are obscured by peat growth and only the occasional outer facing stone is visible.

'A' is oval, 12.0m by 8.5m between wall centres, and 'B' and 'C' are circular, respectively 10.0m and 8.5m in diameter. In each case the entrance is in the S arc.

The field system is small but well-preserved, comprising cultivation plots demarcated by stone clearance heaps and lynchets.

Surveyed at 1:10,560.

Visited by OS (N K B) 15 December 1975.
