In the old burial place of Twyneholm, which was situated about a gun-shot from the present (NX65SE 90), nigh one of the doons, and not far from three of the moats (but of which no vestige now remains, it being part of a corn field) there was turned up by labourers employed to remove part of an old fence, a round piece of gold supposed to be the handle of a coffin.

The old parish church of Twynholm was replaced in 1730 by a new church, situated (at NX 6643 5421), a quarter of a mile north of the old site.
