Archaeology Notes

NC76SW 15 7269 6403.

(NC 7269 6403) A gun-battery was planted on the eastern horn of Borregoe (Borrogeodh: NC 726 640) in 1544 to bombard Borve Castle (NC76SW 2). The site is an eminence overlooking the castle and is still known as Ru-nan-Gunach - Gun Point.

A Mackay 1914.

Cutting east-west across the promontory is an eroeded turf bank now 10 metres long and about 2 metres broad. It is fairly modern but its purpose is uncertain. It is unlikely to have been part of the alleged battery, of which there is no trace.

Visited by OS (J L D) 27 April 1960.

Previous field report confirmed.

Visited by OS (N K B) 14 August 1978
