Archaeology Notes

NX64NW 18 c. 6076 4949.

The ruins of an old town called Rattra are situated a little above Roberton, within 1/2 mile of Kirkandrews Church. There was of old a weekly market there, but the town is long since demolished, and near its ruins is now a little village which retains the old town's name. (Rattra farm: NX 6025 4900).

W Macfarlane 1907

The old town or village of Rattra (Outlaw's Village) (A Cruikshank, Rattra Farm) stood in Wee Croft field centred on NX 6076 4949. The field has been ploughed over a period of years and no surveyable remains survive but traces of old walls have been found while ploughing.

Visited by OS (RD) 3 February 1971.
