Archaeology Notes

NX64NE 20 685 485.

Mutehill (name: NX 685 485) derives its name from a moat which was adjacent to the farmhouse, but of which no trace now remains.

Name Book 1849

No further information. There is no evidence of a moat on the ground and nothing visible on APs. An alternative explanation of the name might be 'Moot Hill' (meeting place).

Visited by OS (WDJ) 7 January 1971.
