(NX 4083 7135) Chambered Cairn (NR)
OS 6" map (1957)
A chambered long cairn of the Clyde group composed of boulders and excavated by Edwards in 1922.
A S Henshall 1972
It is now much robbed and disturbed with rather indistinct edges and is overgrown by grass and bracken. It is 79' long, 40' to 50' broad and 2' to 3' high except at the NW where it is 7' high possibly due to being piled up during early explorations. The excavation confirmed the existence of five chambers but produced no evidence of a peristalith. The chambers are still partly visible although they now contain stone and other rubbish. They had been emptied before the excavation and there were no finds.
A J H Edwards 1923
A chambered long cairn generally as described by previous authorities and measuring 23.0m EW by 15.0m. The chambers, one in the E end and two in either side, are well defined and each measures 2.2m by 1.0m.
Surveyed at 1:10 000.
