NX46NW 23 c. 4087 6637

A fairly well worn As of Trajan (AD 98-117) was found in the gardens of Douglas House, Newton Stewart, in the spring of 1951 by Mrs Jean Robertson, the caretaker. It was submitted by R B K Stevenson, NMAS.

The find spot of this coin could not be established as the finder (Mrs Robertson) is now dead. Douglas House and gardens, now a Civil Defence Centre, are centred on NX 4087 6637.
