(NX 4490 6999) Castle of Old Risk (NR) (Remains of)

OS 6" map (1957)

The ruins of this castle are almost reduced to ground level with the exception of a portion of the E wall which survived in 1911 to a height of a few feet. Marshland to the S and W make this a strong site, but no dateable features of the castle remain.

RCAHMS 1914

The remains of this castle are generally as described above. The building measures externally 16.0 x 7.0m with walls 1.0m thick of roughly coursed unmortared masonry now grass-covered.

Revised at 25".

Visited by OS (RD) 26 September 1966
