OS 6" map (1957)

'The Beacon', a motte (R W Feachem 1956) in the form of an oval flat- topped mound of earth and stone, 14 ft high with sides sloping at an angle of 40 degrees. The top measures 46 ft by 30 ft and there is no indication of a mound around the edge, nor is there a ditch at the base of the mound.

RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911

NX 4700 6523. A motte generally as described by the above authorities.

It is 3.5m high and its top now measures 12.0m N-S by 8.0m. The name 'The Beacon' was not confirmed locally.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.
