Archaeology Notes

NX44NW 12 40 46.

A Roman bronze patera was found in 1863 in the mud near the E margin of Dowalton Loch. It is 5 1/2" tall and 8" diameter across the mouth. The handle, 7" long, is stamped CIPIPOLIBI. It is of Campanian origin and 1st century date, and is now in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS, Accession no. HU 1).
