(NX 3995 7096) Drumfern Cairn (NR).
OS 6" map (1957)
A low, overgrown cairn 22' in diameter surmounted by a modern cairn. There is no evidence of its having been excavated. A number of small cairns lie between it and the corner of the enclosed land to the SW. Another low cairn about 20' in diameter lies some 70 yds east of Drumfern Cairn. In its vicinity are the remains of what appear to be ancient sheep rees (folds) and walls of larger enclosures. The foundations of small elliptical structures, probably shieling bothies, also occur. About 30 yds south of the last cairn are what appear to be the remains of another adjacent to a sheep shelter. Heaps of stones still further south between two lines of old enclosing walls resemble 'cloddings' rather than sepulchral cairns.
RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911
