(NX 3821 6143) Cairn (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

The remains of an oblong cairn lying with its longest axis NE-SW and measuring 65ft by 47ft. The stones have been almost entirely carted away and it is doubtful if the interment remains intact.

RCAHMS 1912

In dimensions and orientation this cairn seems to compare with the Clyde-Solway type long cairns (cf. Mid Gleniron 1 and 2 - NX16SE).

A S Henshall Chambered Cairns MSS (Wigtownshire Nos 7 and 8) 1965

The cairn is situated at NX 3822 6149 (ie. the published site is an original error, and is generally as described by RCAHMS. There is nothing to suggest that this is a Clyde-Solway type long cairn.

Resurveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (RD) 29 September 1966
