Archaeology Notes

(NX 2408 5660) Hut Circles (NR) (6 shown).

OS 6" map (1957)

The remains of a group of huts of larger size and built of larger stones than the usual huts in this area, are situated in a NE-facing hollow. No small cairns are associated.

The huts mostly lie at the sides of the hollow, one, on the south side near the top measures 16' by 14' over all and may have contained two chambers. At the NW upper end of the hollow is a small semi-circular recess 20' across formed by outcropping rock. Its opening is blocked by the remains of a hut.

RCAHMS 1912, visited 1911

No trace of these hut circles could be found. The area has been ploughed and afforested.

Visited by OS (BS) 23 June 1976
