(NX 1094 7074) Brockloch Cairn (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

A circular cairn about 41' in diameter and 3' to 4' high, apparently unexcavated.

RCAHMS 1912, visited 1911

NX 1094 7075. This cairn is 12.5m in diameter and 1.3m high. It has a large hollow dug into it on the S and a small modern rectangular enclosure built on its northern half. It was not possible to confirm the name locally.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.

Visited by OS (BS) 28 April 1976

This cairn is situated on the E flank of Cairn Hill overlooking the Penwhirn Burn. It measures 12.3m in diameter and originally stood about 0.9m in height; since 1911 however, a trench has been driven through the centre of the cairn from NNE to SSW and the height of the mound has been raised with the upcast. There is a small pen on the WSW edge of the cairn. The area has recently been ploughed for forestry and the edges of the cairn have been clipped by the plough-furrows.

RCAHMS 1987, visited (SH) March 1985.
