A group of at least four shieling huts are situated on the SE side of the Shiels Lane, to the S of Big Craigenlee (NX 1999 7067, 1999 7070, 1998 7073 and 1996 7069); to the NW there is another possible hut, a rectangular building and an enclosure (NX 1994 7075, 1991 7070 and 1990 7072 respectively).

Two unroofed shieling-huts marked by pecked lines are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Wigtonshire 1849, sheet 6), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1977).

Field Visit (29 April 2014 - 10 July 2014)
Group of at least 4 shieling huts on gentle south facing slope immediately to the NW of small burn. Sheilings are rectangular in plan between 5m and10m in length and between 3m and 4m wide. A number of stony mounds may represent the poorly preserved remains of further shielings.
Group of at least 5 shieling huts on gentle W facing slope to S of small burn. Rectangular in plan with stone and earth walls. Between 5-7m in length and 3-4m wide and up to 0.4m high. A number of stony mounds may represent the poorly preserved remains of further shielings.
