Archaeology Notes

NC73SW 9 7028 3286.

At NC 7028 3286 situated on the edge of level ground below the settlement of NC73SE 6, and beside a marshy water course, is a burnt mound. It is "horseshoe-shaped", turf-covered and measures 10.5m across with a height of 1.2m; the open end is in the SSE. The NW end of the mound is overlaid by the boundary wall of the adjacent shieling site (NC73SW 18). A trial dig revealed contents of blackened earth, charcoal and friable stones.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.
