A stone building traditionally stood c.5 1/2 chains N of Stone Ford, at a period when very few stone buildings were in existence. It was probably an old church, dedicated to St Donan (d.617), or some other building connected with it (see also NX13NW 8 and NX13NW 17 ).

In a field on the west side of this (Kildonan) hill, stone graves have been met with. It is said that formerly a church and graveyard stood here but no trace of it can be seen now. The field has been in cultivation during the memory of the oldest inhabitant.

It is said (Stone Ford) took its name from a stone house being near it at a period when very few stone building(s) were in existence in the country. This stone house was probably an old kirk which it is said stood about 5 1/2 chains north of it, or some other house connected therewith. No trace of it can be found.

There are no visible remains of a church, dedicated to St Donnan, which is said to have stood on the N side of the Kildonan Glen; cist-graves have been found near by (NX13NW 8 and NX13NW 17 ). For an Early Christian stone which may have come from this stie, see NX13SW 7.
