Archaeology Notes

NX05NW 13 0249 5728.

What is probably a robbed cairn is situated on a low rise 390m NW of Craigenlee farmhouse; it measures about 22m in diameter and at least six possible kerbstones, large boulders up to 1.1m by 0.5m and 0.4m in height, are visible around the perimeter. At the centre the cairn stands to a maximum of 0.6m in height, but the surface of the W half is scarred with quarry pits and there are low cultivation ridges running across the E half. The perimeter of the cairn, however, can still be traced beneath the cultivation ridges, as can several earlier quarry pits.

RCAHMS 1985, visited (SH) October 1984.
