Achness or Achaneas . . . applies to several small ruins. The inhabitants were burned out about 1812 by the then Duke of Sutherland's orders.
Name Book 1871.
The footings and remains up to 0.5m high of at least nine buildings ranging in size from 10.0m by 5.0m to 26.0m by 4.0m together with associated enclosures, two sheepfolds and the remains of a kiln.
Visited by OS (R D L) 23 April 1964.
A township, comprising eleven unroofed building, two enclosures and some field walls, is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet lxxxviii). Ten unroofed buildings, two enclosures and some field walls are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
