Archaeology Notes

NC71NW 15 centred on 730 172.

Crofting settlement abandoned in the 18th/19th Century. Remains include half a dozen or so building footings, including a long-house, several ruinous enclosures, a corn-drying kiln, and the course of a head dyke or bank. Ruins of a later shepherd's house are at NC 7293 1745.

A township comprising two roofed and three unroofed buildings, three enclosures, a field and a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet lxxxvii). Thirteen unroofed buildings, three enclosures, a field and a ring-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
