Archaeology Notes

NW97SE 2 9895 7256.

(NW 9895 7256) St Columba's Well (NR)

A powerful spring of pure water gushing from a grassy bank not far above high-water mark. The tradition of sanctity still lingers about it "while from the cross which tradition tells us stood by the well, comes the name of Corsewell." (Corsewall)

RCAHMS 1912; E M H M'Kerlie 1916

A natural spring, as described. A crude attempt has been made to line it and cover it with stones. No information was encountered regarding a cross but the name "St Columba's Well" is well known locally.
