Archaeology Notes

NC70SE 16 c. 76 00.

Aberscross was the residence of the Murrays who came to Sutherland in 1198. Scarcely a vestige remains of their seat, yet the green fields around it show where they lived.

J Mackay 1895; W Macfarlane 1906-8.

Aberscross depopulated site is centred at NC 769 001, but none of the remains could be identified as representing a tower. No further information.

Visited by OS (R D L) 15 April 1964.
