Archaeology Notes

NT75SE 27 c. 78 53.

A triangular, perforated whinstone axe from Duns (NT 7853) was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1879 by A Mitchell M D (Accession No: AH 8). It measures 9 3/4ins by 4ins by 3ins.

NMAS Catalogue 1892.

A barbed and tanged flint arrowhead, also from Duns, was listed among the items in the collection of T Scott ARSA, Bowden, in 1895.

The axe-hammer that is held in the Royal Museum of Scotland under accession number NMS AH 8 has been classified as an example of Type I and petrologically attributed to group XXVII (greywacke from the Southern uplands of Scotland).
