Archaeology Notes

NT75NE 5 centred 7644 5900.

Two cists were found in the spring of 1931 while ploughing on Cockburn farm. The site was in the Pond Field, some 300 yds NW of the steading and near the 800' contour line. They measured 4'5" by 1'6" by 1'2". No relics were found; their orientation suggests they were pre-Christian, and from their dimensions probably contained full-length burials.

A Falconer 1932.

Centred: NT 7644 5900. Sited from topo description above. The present tenant of Cockburn, Mr G Fullerton, remembers the cists being found, but was unable to give an exact location.

Visited by OS (JFC) 23 December 1954.

No further information.

Visited by OS (RD) 27 July 1970.
