Accessing Scotland's Past Project

The architect William Burn designed Anton's Hill House, which was built in the nineteenth century. It gets its name from a nearby well that is dedicated to St Anthony.

Burn designed the house in Jacobean style, which a nineteenth century revival. It features an elaborate entrance with a carved heraldic panel and decorated gables.

This house took seventeen years to build, between 1836 and 1853, as Burn designed the structure in such a manner that it could be built in sections, work having begun with the service wing.
