In a pasture field to the west of Mersington House, there are building remains that indicate that this was once the site of a medieval village.
A visit to the site in 1979 recorded an area of turf-covered stone footings that measured 45m x 10.5m in total. Within this area, a range of building shapes and sizes were seen. In addition, five other sites were identified on which buildings may once have stood.
Historical documents recorded that a tower and chapel once stood at Mersington until 1545, when the Earl of Hertford destroyed both in a raid.
