Polwarth Castle was situated halfway between Polwarth village and the church. The date of construction is unknown, and no remains are visible at the site, which was marked in the late nineteenth century by a clump of fir trees.
No details of the castle itself are recorded, but it was probably a thick-walled defensive structure. Likewise, little is known about the Polwarth family, who held the lands associated with the castle until the sixteenth century. The first record of them is in a charter dating from the reign of Alexander II (1214-49).

Polwarth Castle stood halfway between the village and the church, its site marked by a clump of Scotch firs. The lands of Polwarth were held by a family of the same name of whom little is known, although they are said to have been established before 900, but the name is first mentioned in a charter of the time of Alexander II (1214-49).
