Records show that a number of microliths have been discovered on the lands of Wallaceneuck steading, situated to the south-west of Maxwellheugh.
Unfortunately no further information is given about the microliths or how they were found. Generally speaking, microliths are often associated with the Mesolithic, the period following the last ice age which lasted for four thousand years or more. Several microliths could be used to form a larger, composite object; for instance, a small row of small flint blades set into an antler or bone handle could have been used as a knife.
