(NT 7420 1487) Standing Stone (NAT)

OS 6"map, Roxburghshire, 2nd ed.,(1899).

The standing stone shown on the OS 6"map of 1899, as situated on the high ground half a mile N of Middleknowes farm has now disappeared. (It was not published on 1st edition 6"map, so there is no description of

it in the relevant ONB.)

RCAHMS 1956, visited 1938.

There is nothing significant to be seen at the site of this "standing stone" but, in an old quarry at NT 7421 1488, there is a large, almost rectangular stone measuring about 1.6m long by 0.7m square, possibly the stone referred to. The local farmer could not give any further information.

Visited by OS(RD) 21 May 1968.
