Archaeology Notes

NC66SE 11 6603 6314.

(NC 6603 6314) An artificial cave enters from below the road and runs for 40 or 50 yards below the house of Skerra-mains. Two urns were found in it when it was discovered but they crumbled away on being exposed to the air.

This cave was not located during field investigation.

The occupants of Skerry Mains have heard of this cave, which may possibly be a souterrain, but they have no knowledge of its exact location.
