OS 6" map (1971)

The rectangular lectern-type dovecot at Belton measures 35ft by 18 1/2 ft; the front wall is 10 1/2ft high while that at the rear is 21 1/2ft high. The gables are crow-stepped, and the roof, which contains 13 entrance holes, is covered with corrugated iron. It was originally two- chambered, containing about 1374 nests (of which 560 remain), but one section is now occupied by the gas plant which now lights the

mansion.

J Whitaker 1938

This dovecot, of late 17th or 18th century date, is generally as described by Whitaker.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 22 March 1966.
