(HU 3449 1362) Thief's House (cave) (NAT)

OS 1:10000 map, Shetland (1973)

Thief's House: A cave situated near the N end of Fitful Head. The situation and surroundings of this cave leave little doubt that it is the place described by Sir Walter Scott in 'The Pirate' as the residence of "Norma of the Fitful Head". However, he is evidently wrong in stating that a Pict's House at one time existed here as there can be no doubt that the hollow flat above the cave is a natural formation. The cave is easy of access, but has become filled up, leaving little to be seen.
