Archaeology Notes

NC65NW 14 6397 5818.

At NC 6397 5818, at the south eastern limit of a minor field system (NC65NW 8), is a burnt mound. Covered thickly by peat and heather it is distinctly 'U' shaped and measures 8.5m north-south by 5.5m. The open side of the mound in the west faces an adjacent burn. A trial dug in the mound revealed a content of friable stones.

Measured Survey (26 April 2022)

A burnt mound and three hut circles, generally as described by the OS in 1978, were mapped with differential GPS during the survey of the Dallcharn stone rows (NC65NW 26).
